MyMedicare is a voluntary patient registration programme introduced by the Australian Government. It was developed in response to the Strengthening Medicare Taskforce of July 2022, which identified the need for stronger connections between patients and their healthcare providers.
The programme aims to formalise the relationship between you, your general practice, and your preferred GP. Research consistently shows that patients who maintain ongoing relationships with their general practitioners experience better health outcomes over time.

If you prefer a paper-based approach, you can complete a registration form at our Hornsby practice. Our friendly reception staff will upload the completed form to myGov on your behalf.
Please note: You must have had at least two consultations with a GP at our practice before you can register with MyMedicare. This requirement ensures an established relationship exists between you and your healthcare team.

Absolutely. Registration with MyMedicare is entirely voluntary, and you are free to change your registration to another practice or GP at any time. There are no restrictions or penalties for updating your registration as your circumstances change.
MyMedicare registration does not change your existing Medicare entitlements. Our fee structure and bulk billing eligibility remain the same. Registration simply helps strengthen your connection with our practice and enables access to additional programme benefits.
Download the myGov app from the App Store or Google Play Store. Sign in to your myGov account, navigate to Medicare services, and look for the MyMedicare registration option.
